Trump is an unconventional politician but shouldn't have been an existential threat
Trump has been one of the most unconventional major political figures. He was a real estate developer, pop culture figure, game show host, and Twitter abuser who had been in the public eye since the 80s. Yes, he was a king of self promotion. He had honed his media skills under the tutelage of Roy Cohn, in the very fierce New York media market.
So he is extremely unconventional, but prior to running for president in 2015, he was well accepted by the power elites. He received awards for his good works. Democrat power brokers treated him with respect. Mitt begged for his favor and endorsement, even if he hated doing it.
Trump, for all his drama, had been singing the same tune since the 80s. He opposed foreign military adventures. He hated bad trade deals. He thought we had too much immigration. And that is it.
Four years ago I had a conversation with a friend who was served under Bush and later became a federal judge. This man is normally calm, wise, and completely rational. He admitted to me he agreed with Trump's policies, but turned into a babbling crazy person trying to talk about Trump as a person. He clearly had an emotional visceral reaction to Trump as a person.
Bob Barr, in a recent interview, talked about how he agreed with Trump's policies and would vote for him again, but wanted someone different, though he would vote for Trump once again if he were nominated.
Many others have a reaction to Trump the man, while claiming to like Trump's policies. This creates an interesting issue. Without Trump, would the Republicans have changed at all? And have the politicians changed much, for all their lip service to Trump's policies?
First, they would have never even pretended to change absent Trump. They would have kept on endless wars and free trade forever.
And second, the issue of Ukraine demonstrates the truth behind their lies. This same allegedly “America First” politicians are hurting America and spending its wealth and risking destruction over a typical Neocon conflict. They really don't believe in the America First agenda. They still support endless useless wars that only enrich the defense industry.
But even so, it was the Deep State that felt like Trump was an existential threat, not the lying members of ConInc. They unleashed everything they could to stop Trump. Why?
Because he threatened they rule. The sick truth is that America has been ruled by Deep State elites since prior to WW2. To stay in power they killed JFK and RFK, Deep Throated Nixon, forced Reagan to take Bush as his VP, and then a Bush family friend tried to kill Reagan. Whatever the truth behind 9/11, that used it to extend their power, including creating the surveillance state with the cooperation (or maybe more) of Big Tech.
The Deep State decided Trump threatened them. However, this is silly. Trump is horrible at picking personnel and is easily manipulated by merely sucking up to him. They should have just played nice and conned the conman.
Instead they exposed themselves. And perhaps that is the real Trump issue. Trump is magnificent at calling “bullshit” on people and ideas. Maybe his “threat” was that he was too good at opening the eyes of others to the truth covered up by lies these last 30 years.
Most likely.
