Will We Soon Have Ukraine War Negotiations?
Recent published reports allege that the US has offered Russia 20% of Ukraine in a trial balloon peace proposal. There appears to be a realization in Washington that Russia will continue to destroy Ukrainian and volunteer (read NATO) troops and take more land in the upcoming months. Moreover, as per the recent RAND report, Washington now seems to understand that continuing the war is a greater threat to the American empire than peace with Russian gains.
The former prime minister of Israel has also recently claimed that there was a resolution proposal advancing last spring to resolve the conflict, but that NATO leadership shut it down.
Russia appears not to be willing to take the bait. Russia attempted to negotiate with the US prior the outbreak of hostilities, but with no success. It negotiated directly with Ukraine for the first few months of the war, but those efforts failed, as recently confirmed, due to Western leaders intervening and pushing continued war.
Russia negotiated regarding these issues since 2014 and reached the two Minsk Accords, neither of which Ukraine ever implemented and both of which Ukraine violated. Former German prime minister Angela Merkel has claimed that the Minsk Accords were never designed to solve anything, but to give NATO more time to build the Ukrainian army.
There is even a report that France negotiated a deal between Ukraine and Russia back in 2006, but that US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice shut it down, because she favored further NATO expansion.
Russia has also been pushing back against NATO expansion since the GWB administration, so the failure of the US to take the issue seriously has been a major misstep.
Russia has set clear goals and the US has mocked these goals, instead of addressing them with respect. Pundits talk about Putin wanting to recreate the Soviet Union or Imperial Russia, instead of taking him at his word as to what his goals really are. America has been duplicitous for so long, advancing its aims with fake goals, that it expects the rest of the world to do the same thing.
Now the New York Times is even admitting that Ukraine is losing the war and that Ukraine should negotiate. This is a serious admission, as the New York Times is one of the propaganda mouthpieces for the Deep State. It sets the agenda for the entire media and pundit class. What it publishes should not be seen as objective journalism, but the position of The Powers That Be.
Given what happened with previous negotiations, Russia should not stop any military actions to obtain talks. It should not make any “good faith” demonstrations. These will likely just result in more attacks, as the West will use these to position new assets and buy time.
The US will likely try to delay talks until after it attempts its 2023 counterattack. The US always like to negotiate from a position of strength and will continue doubling down and expending troops in a fruitless effort to gain that strength, like it has done over the last 70 years. This will cause a huge risk of escalation of the entire conflict. Besides longer-range missiles and Western main battle tanks, we might see NATO aircraft in the field and open NATO troops fighting Russia.
In other words, the US is willing to start WW3, with all the risks of nuclear war, just to get a slightly stronger position for the peace talks. Of course, America would rather just have unconditional surrender, but that just is not going to happen.
Of course, by the time the Ukrainian summer offensive fails and tens of thousands more troops die, the US will be in an even worse position to negotiate. Russia will have completed its steamrolling of the heavily fortified areas of the Donbas still controlled by Ukraine and may occupy much more than that.
Well, the leadership of the Global American Empire have never shown themselves to be smart or wise.
