There is a lot of fear mongering right now regarding Russia starting a nuclear war. Much has been made of Dmitry Medvedev’s statement that any attempt to push Russia back to its 1991 borders would trigger nuclear war.
Instead of crying about this, let's look at what that means. Russia annexed Crimea in 2014. Pushing Russia back to its 2014 borders would mean taking Crimea from Russia. Crimea has been Russian for centuries and it has been the goal of Western nations to take Crimea from Russia for a very long time (Crimean War, anyone?).
It also means pushing Russia out of the Donbas, areas that have been formally joined to Russia and are populated by Russians. So, it effectively means that NATO would be invading Russia.
Remember that half of Ukraine is Russian ethnicity any supportive, and this can be seen in old election maps such as this one.
So what Medvedev is saying is: Invade Russia and we will nuke you. This is a rational statement and reasonable. No matter the NATO propaganda, this is not the statement of a deranged leader.
Expanding NATO eastward was an aggressive, expansionist move. No matter the claims otherwise today, it was always designed to threaten Russia. Many a Neocon with heritage in the former Soviet Union or Tsarist Russia has dreamed of breaking up Russia. The opportunist for exploitation are nearly endless and how else can the West fix its economy without looting Russia?
The West is attempting to provoke Russia, just like it did 2 years ago. The West wanted Russia to attack. Now it would love for Russia to use nukes. The problem is Russia has no need for nukes to win, so the most likely user of nukes in this conflict is the West. Russia has worked really hard to prevent this, but perhaps dementia Joe and his Neocon cronies will just go ahead and push the button.
Please don't give Dementia Joe ideas!
