I was pretty pissed when I went to Pasadena and the horny frogs, that I had never even heard of, beat my badgers. I went to watch my badgers in Pasadena again the next year and we lost again. So all my friends said I couldn’t go the next year after that, so I saved a few bucks, and we ended up losing again. But at least I also got to see my badgers beat the smug asshats from Stanford at the Rose Bowl in 2000, after we partied all night in Vegas for the millennium and drove to Pasadena half drunk. Good times. Good times…
That was a tough loss for Wisconsin 12 years ago. I took my father to that game, who had lived in SoCal all of his life and had never been to the Rose Bowl game, though we had gone to various games and events at the Rose Bowl over the years. Good memories.
Hey, your new coach might take Wisconsin back to the successful ways, though getting back to the Rose Bowl is going to be harder since it will be CFP semifinal game in the expanded playoff. The Big Ten West looks like an easy place these days to have a quick turnaround, so the Badgers might be looking at an immediate improvement.
Honestly the Badgers are unlikely to ever get to the top for a few reasons. The most important reason is the bad weather there, which prevents them getting the best recruits for key positions like QB, WR, DB. They might get one or two really good players at those a couple of those positions at any given time, but it would be a miracle if they could get several to fill them all at one time. Then there is always the consistently piss poor and predictable offensive play calling. Always a bridesmaid…
Your new coach is a winner. Wisconsin had bad weather and everything else when it was good. He should have success there. The expanded CFP means it will be much easier getting in and having a chance at a national title. Given how bad the Big Ten West is, it does not take much to be the best team in the division.
The bigger issue is what will the B10 do once USC and UCLA join. Is it going to drop divisions all together and just put the top two teams into the championship game? I hope not, as that is what the P12 did this year and Washington, who would have won the P12 North and played for the championship, got left out due to a poorly drafted tie-breaker rules. I suspect both schools will struggle playing road games in November in Wisconsin and Minnesota.
Anyway, we might never again see a PAC 12 Big 10 Rose Bowl ever again.
